The Photography Department
Studies in the photography department offer motivated students who are interested in the visual image, the possibility to develop and explore their personal photographic language in the field of contemporary photography. The studies include experiments in the wide range of the medium: from traditional analogue photography to advanced digital images.
Students in the photography department are exposed to a wide selection of theoretical and practical lessons in photography and neighboring fields such as video, creative writing, installation, drawing and design. The studies will also include lectures and master-classes of guest photographers, culture figures and social activists. The school offers state of the art facilities and labs for color and b&w developing and printing, digital lab, studios, computer rooms and video editing suites.
The studies are 3 years long and provide the students with technical and visual skills. Students will be challenged to think, create and discuss photography and art. The final year will focus on a practical project, according to the ability and intent of the student, and with personal instruction.
After completing the third year, each graduate will present a solo exhibition, will create a portfolio for themselves, and on top of a Musrara graduate diploma, will be able to receive a certified photography guide from the school.
The photography department encourages alternative creativity and project initiative in the community. It nurtures the student in their individual path and enables them to develop a personal photographic language according to their point of view. The teaching staff consists of contemporary photographers, interdisciplinary artists, social activists and school graduates.
